Peter Wright will go down as one of the greatest darts players of all-time.
Snakebite is a two-time World Champion and a multi-time major winner within the PDC, but, strangely, there’s also a lot of unfulfilled potential there.
Indeed, Wright has lost almost as many major finals as he’s won, and while he has an incredible trophy collection, he could’ve achieved a lot more in the game if he’d found that extra level when it matters.
Speaking to PDC Europe on TikTok, Russ Bray has been discussing some hypothetical darting scenarios, and he was asked if Wright would’ve been more successful if he stopped changing his darts so often.
Wright is one of darts’ great tinkerers. He changes his equipment on an almost weekly basis, and sometimes he’ll even change within a game.
Bray says that Wright absolutely would’ve been a bigger success if he just stuck with one set in his career.
Russ Bray shares how Peter Wright could’ve been more successful
Bray shared his verdict on Snakebit and his tendency to change his darts.
“Would Peter Wright have been more successful in his career if he didn’t change his darts so often?” Bray was asked.
“I totally agree, yes,” Bray said.
“I think changing your equipment like that has got to be a nightmare because if this one doesn’t work then you’re changing to that one.
“I would say if he could’ve stuck with one set of darts, those gold ones he won the World Championship with, then yes, definitely.”

Why does Peter Wright always change his darts?
Wright’s decision to change darts so often does seem strange. After all, you’re never going to have any consistency if you’re always chopping and changing.
However, Wright recently revealed why he changes his darts so often.
“[I’m trying to find] that one or two per cent, that’s all it takes sometimes. If that helps you win that title or get to the final then that’s what you need,” Wright said.
“You’ve got to take the risk [of changing darts]. You never know you might just pick up this set of darts they made for you and they work fantastic, or they might not.”
As anyone who has played darts knows, sometimes you need something to change to make you focus more, and for Wright, that feeling of using new equipment seemingly keeps him on his toes.
Perhaps Wright would’ve been better off sticking to one set for his entire career, but after two World Championship titles, a World Matchplay win and numerous other major honours, it’s hard to argue with any decision the Scot has made over the years.
