Luke Humphries has had an exceptional 2024, but not everything has gone the way of Cool Hand on the PDC tour.

The World No. 1 has shined in the majors this term, picking up the World Championship and the World Matchplay, but he’s struggled at times on the Euro Tour and the World Series.

While Luke Humphries has cast doubt over appearing in World Series events next year, he also suffered an early exit at the hands of Gabriel Clemens at the Hungarian Darts Trophy.

Luke Humphries was defeated 6-5 by the German in the second round of the competition and he’s taken to social media to demand more from himself on the Pro Tour in Leicester.

Luke Humphries ‘looking to stay sharp’ on Pro Tour

After the shock loss to Clemens in Budapest, Humphries took to X to share his disappointment with his performances against the German.

The World No. 1 said: “Naturally disappointed with how I did in Hungary, but I have the chance to put it right at two Pro Tour events in Leicester from today.

Cool Hand is looking to use the Pro Tour to benefit his game ahead of a busy final end to the PDC Tour in 2024. He said: “Looking to stay sharp ahead of plenty of events coming up.”

Humphries will be looking to bounce back from his Hungary exit at the Players Championship 22 and 23 at The Mattioli Arena in Leicester on September 24-25.

Humphries form is good despite Hungary loss

The second-round exit in Budapest is disappointing for a player the calibre of Humphries, but his form was not poor in Hungary.

The 29-year-old averaged over 100 against Gabriel Clemens and hit five maximums in 11 legs in his narrow loss against the German.

It came down to an impressive 14-dart break of throw in the decider for Clemens to topple the World No. 1 which should not knock Humphries’ confidence heading into the Pro Tour in Leicester.

Humphries is yet to win a Players Championship event in 2024 and has only reached one final, losing to Danny Noppert 8-6 in April.
