We’re heading into the business end of 2024, and that means it’s a very exciting time for darts.

The World Championships is just around the corner, while the Grand Slam and the Players Championship Finals are also on the horizon.

While this is an exciting time of year for many players, for some, this is a worrying period.

Indeed, as 2025 rolls around, a number of PDC players are in danger of losing their Tour Cards as they potentially drop out of the top 64.

The top 64 is the cut-off for players who want to keep their Tour Card, unless it is their first year with a two-year pass.

Many top players are in danger of dropping off the circuit., and speaking on his YouTube channel, Matthew Edgar has expressed concern about Simon Whitlock’s situation.

Simon Whitlock could lose his Tour Card

Edgar shared his worry for The Wizard.

The pundit says that Whitlock’s chances of keeping his card are dwindling away after another poor Pro Tour outing, and he could be in trouble later this year, especially if he doesn’t qualify for the World Championships.

“Simon Whitlock, his chances of keeping his Tour Card are slowly dwindling away,” Edgar said.

“He will have to go to the PDPA qualifier, no Minehead, he’s in trouble Whitlock. I think he’s in trouble and he could be someone who gets swamped at the back end of the year.”

Who else could lose their Tour Card?

As Edgar says Whitlock is in trouble, but he’s not the only player who is in danger of losing their Tour Card at the end of the year.

Indeed, numerous players are in danger in the rankings, and there are some big names in there.

Of course, Whitlock is perhaps the biggest name of the lot as he is a former major winner, but Mervyn King has is another legend who could drop out.

Once upon a time, King was a Premier League finalist, but now, it looks like he could drop off the tour altogether.

Of course, all eyes will be on the race to become World Champion in late December, but it’s also worth keeping in mind that some big players are fighting for their darting futures in the coming weeks as well.

Fingers crossed Whitlock will be able to hold onto his status as a PDC player.
