Phil Taylor is arguably the greatest darts player of all-time, but, sadly, his playing days are coming to an end.

The 16-time World Champion retired from the professional game after the 2018 World Championships and a final defeat to Rob Cross, but since then, he’s continued to feature on the Senior circuit as well as playing exhibitions.

However, Taylor is now ready to completely call it a day after recent hip problems have left him in serious pain.

Speaking to Online Darts, Taylor discussed his ongoing problems, and he says that he finds playing darts heartbreaking these days due to the pain he feels.

Phil Taylor finds playing darts too painful

Taylor spoke about how he feels when he practices nowadays.

“It’s horrible. Horrible. It’s like trying to lift a roof off a house. it’s heartbreaking to be honest. I know I’m better than this, but I can’t turn right. It’s like a trapped nerve in the back playing up, like an electric shock. It’s a strange feeling.”

“Age is a horrible thing. Honestly. It’s a weird thing. You’ve never had it in your life, but then I’m weakened by it, it’s awful.”

What will Phil Taylor do next?

Phil Taylor’s playing days are coming to an end, but that won’t be the last we see of The Power.

Indeed, Taylor is going to continue in a role as an ambassador for the World Seniors tour, while he’s also going to be a regular meet and greet special guest for exhibition meetings.

Taylor remains darts’ greatest ever legend, and his presence will still be felt within the game for a long time yet.

The 64-year-old still has a few more events he’s going to play before his career finally comes to an end, and who knows? Perhaps he can win that ever-elusive World Seniors title in one last hurrah.
