Luke Littler’s maiden World Darts Championship win at 17 has led to many predicting he’ll beat Phil Taylor’s record of 16 wins, but The Power claims he has to follow these two rules to get anywhere close.

Luke Littler’s 2025 World Darts Championship win capped off a terrific debut year which saw The Nuke claim the Grand Slam of Darts and the Premier League.

After his World Championship win, Luke Littler claimed he could beat Phil Taylor’s record but The Power has offered some left-field advice in how to get the best out of his game.

Phil Taylor recommends shoes and sleep to Luke Littler

Phil Taylor has no doubt Littler’s game is good enough to smash his once thought unattainable World Championship record, but he’s suggested two non-darting changes The Nuke should make.

Speaking to The Sun, Taylor suggested the teenager should think about his footwear when heading into major tournaments.

The Power said: “I would tell him shoes. If you’re not standing comfortably on the oche, you’re not going to hit a target the size of your little fingernail, so make sure your shoes fit perfectly — and take two or three pairs with you everywhere.”

As well as thinking about what he wears on his feet, Taylor suggests Littler should think carefully about how much sleep he gets.

He said: “Make sure you get enough rest. I still take a mattress topper with me everywhere I go because some hotel beds are like sleeping in the middle of the road.

“Your darts won’t go where you want them to land if you are bleary-eyed after a restless night.”

Taylor won his 16 World Darts Championships between 1990 and 2023 before retiring from the game in 2018.

He returned to darts at the PDC Seniors Tour in 2022 at the World Seniors Darts Championship, losing to Kevin Painter in the quarterfinals.

Phil Taylor names the first thing he’d do if he coached Luke Littler

Taylor has previously suggested he would have no problem improving Littler if he became the darting coach.

Speaking to Online Darts ahead of the World Darts Championship, the 16-time World Darts Champion said he’d make The Nuke give up something very important to him.

He said: “Luke wouldn’t be playing on his PlayStation, and I could improve Luke one hundred percent, no trouble.”

Littler’s affinity to video games is well-known and The Nuke recently etched a sponsorship deal with Microsoft and Xbox.
