PDC Referee ‘never seen the like’ as darts fans react to unusual shot in Modus Super Series

Fans witnessed one of the strangest set-up shots in darts earlier today in the Modus Super Series.

One could think everything that can be done on a dartboard has been achieved during its history.

Connor Scutt, however, is an entertainer and loves to show off his skills with exhibition shots.

The 28-year-old has been on a mission to hit a nine-darter by checking out with three bullseyes.

Earlier today, he shocked fans and referee Owen Binks with a creative way of leaving his favoured 32.

Versatile Scutt wows fans

‘The Sniper’ was trailing 2-1 to teenager Thomas Banks when he was left on 190.

The approved route would be to leave a double after hitting three trebles, but Scutt is not a fan of convention.

Instead, the former PDC Tour Card holder hit double 19 with his final dart after already scoring 120 to leave his favoured double 16.

Binks claimed he had never seen anything like that before in his career.

Another questioned how the London man had not got a tour card given his obvious ability.

Modus Super Series perfect springboard to the PDC

Previously, the BDO – now WDF – was the clearest route to the PDC, allowing players to hone their skills away from the biggest stages.

The Modus Super Series has now largely assumed that role along with the WDF and has given players a platform to showcase their talent to fans.

Last month, Adrian Lewis announced his shock return to darts at the Super Series in 2025.

Scutt likely won’t have many matches left playing Modus darts.

PDC Tour Card holders are ineligible to play in the organisation and from 2025, the 28-year-old is a near certainty to return to the PDC.

His stunning 2024 has propelled him to the top of the PDC Challenge Tour Order of Merit and the top two players will be guaranteed a tour card and a spot at the upcoming World Championship.

If Scutt can hold on to the number one spot, he will also earn a place at the Grand Slam of Darts in November.

Though his previous stint on the tour was disappointing, his experience gained in the Modus Super Series has adequately equipped him for life as a professional should he win his tour card back.
