Luke Humphries shares why he will actually be ‘devastated’ if he wins the European Championship

Luke Humphries is now the firm favourite to win the European Championship after Luke Littler was eliminated by Andrew Gilding on Friday evening.

Cool Hand Luke is the man to beat in Dortmund right now, and he made a statement against Nathan Aspinall on Friday with a 106 average.

You’d find it hard to back against Luke Humphries at the moment, and while he may be on course to win another tournament, Humphries wouldn’t be fully satisfied with a win here.

Indeed, speaking to Online Darts, Humphries says that there would actually be some semblance of regret if he did go on to win the European Championship.

Luke Humphries would be devastated if he won the European Championship

Humphries claimed that he would actually be a bit gutted if he won the European Championship this weekend.

That is because he missed two darts to win the UK Open earlier this year, and a victory in Germany would leave him just one short of winning every PDC ranking major.

“Last year, this was the one that got away in that golden spell, is there unfinished business, do you want to add that to your CV?” Humphries was asked.

“Yeah, of course, but if I do I will be devastated because I missed two doubles at the UK Open and that would’ve been all of the ranking majors done in my career. I’m really up for winning this one, it’s one that’s not been won yet, as well as the UK Open,” Humphries said.

“I have a hard job yet, there are so many great players in front of me. I’m in a tough draw and need to keep my eye on the ball and make sure I keep playing like that.”

Humphries has another big regret

Humphries regrets not being able to win the UK Open this year, and he also fell short in the Premier League.

Cool Hand lost in the Premier League final to Luke Littler back in April, and Humphries noted after winning the World Matchplay that he was still gutted about that game.

“Just gutted Luke [Littler] played so well in that Premier League final to be honest because I was four legs away from creating incredible history, but I’ll go back next year and play in it and try again,” Humphries said.

It can be hard to motivate yourself once you’ve reached the top of your field, but with a Premier League win and a UK Open win still eluding Humphries, he has plenty to strive for in 2025.

Humphries was ‘untouchable’ for most of the Premier League campaign last season, so he will certainly be one of the favourites to win the tournament next year.
