Adrian Lewis has excited fans after revealing he’s spoken to PDC President Barry Hearn about the upcoming World Championship.

Lewis hasn’t thrown a competitive dart in over a year after taking a break from the sport after struggles on and off the oche.

The two-time World Champion sent shockwaves through the sport last week after announcing his sensational return to the sport – playing in the Modus Super Series 2025.

Now, ‘Jackpot’ has teased a run at Alexandra Palace as early as this year despite not being seen in the PDC since spring 2023.

Adrian Lewis not ruling out World Championship

Despite taking a break from darts, Lewis did not relinquish his Tour Card.

This means he is still eligible to play the World Championship qualifiers – held for Tour Card holders failing to qualify for the showpiece event through other means.

Speaking to Wayne Mardle on the Club 501 YouTube channel, Lewis revealed a conversation he had with Barry Hearn.

He said: “No, don’t write that off [playing the World Championship].

“I think if I was going to do one, I was at a charity fishing day yesterday and I was speaking to Barry Hearn and I said I might, I’m not saying that I am, but I might have a go at doing the World Championship qualifiers.”

Questions marks over Lewis’ game

Lewis was far from his best when he took a sabbatical from the sport last year.

He struggled to make an impact in big tournaments and rarely threatened the darting powerhouses he used to duel with so effectively.

Few know where the game of the 39-year-old currently is, but the rhetoric is optimistic.

Many were shocked to hear the Stoke-on-Trent man was planning to return in 2025, let alone considering playing the World Championship qualifiers.

The eight-time major winner will want to avoid becoming a parody of himself and his intentions to return may indicate his form has improved considerably since we last saw him.

If that’s the case, fans should be very excited at the prospect of seeing one of the most electric players this century return to the sport.
