Steve Beaton may just be the ultimate darting cult hero. He’s done it all in the game and he’s got a huge number of fans across the world of all ages.

The Bronzed Adonis almost transcends time, he’s been a regular at the top level for over 30 years, and he’s provided so many memorable moments.

Unfortunately, all good things have to come to an end, and Beaton has now announced that 2024 will be his final year on the PDC tour.

Steve Beaton will then play on the Senior’s Tour once he’s retired, a move that Phil Taylor was over the moon with.

Beaton’s year to date hasn’t quite gone to plan as he’s been eliminated early from both the World Championships and the UK Open, while he actually failed to qualify for the World Matchplay for only the third time in 23 years.

However, there’s still life in Beaton’s darting career, and speaking in an interview on YouTube, the former World Champion outlined what he wants to do before he retires.

Steve Beaton’s final PDC plan

Beaton stated that he wants to go out with a bang as his career comes to a close.

“What was your best moment in the PDC?” Beaton was asked.

“Probably beating Phil in the Grand Slam. It was a tough game, I was losing and I turned it around and won it. It was a great time on Saturday night. For me it was a great game,” Beaton said.

“As you are retiring at the end of this year. Do you have any aims for the rest of 2024?” Beaton was asked.

“I want to go out with a bang really. I want to play well. I don’t want to be playing badly and losing. I think I still have it in me to play a few good games yet,” Beaton said.

Steve Beaton still has what it takes

Beaton may not have had many big TV performances as of late, but make no mistake about it, the 60-year-old is still a top player.

Only earlier this year Beaton beat Michael van Gerwen in a floor event, and no matter what venue you’re playing it, beating MVG is no easy feat.

Beaton is unlikely to qualify for the Grand Slam or the Grand Prix at this point, but a run in the Players Championship Finals could be a goal, before one last hurrah at Alexandra Palace at the end of the year.

Don’t be shocked if Beaton still has one more trick up his sleeve before he heads off to play in the World Seniors Tour.
