Matthew Edgar has suggested that Michael van Gerwen has been playing through injury as of late.
Michael van Gerwen hasn’t had the easiest 12 months on the PDC tour.
It’s coming up to two years since Van Gerwen last won a ranked TV event, and while he’s still in and amongst the conversation in most tournaments, he’s not quite getting over the line.
Speaking on the Love The Darts Podcast, Matthew Edgar has suggested that Van Gerwen may still be playing through injury.
The Dutchman has had some shoulder problems in recent times, and while he’s back playing, and playing well, Edgar reckons he may still be carrying a bit of pain and stiffness.

Michael van Gerwen might still be injured
Edgar spoke about Van Gerwen and the potential problems he may be having.
“I’m just going to pose a question. We know that Michael has had issues with injury. How much of that is still there?” Edgar asked.
“As someone who has had experience of playing with an injury on the tour, you don’t speak of it. Nathan Aspinall. How much is he still lagging from that wrist injury?
“It makes me question how much he’s putting a brave face on and how much he’s struggling and suffering with.”
Van Gerwen is still one of the best
Michael van Gerwen may well be carrying a bit of an injury, but he’s still one of the best players around.
He managed to finish third in the Premier League this year, and that goes to show that Van Gerwen at less than 100% is still better than most players at their very best.
There’s a reason Wayne Mardle has recently praised him as an ‘exceptional’ player, while he remains in second-place on the Order of Merit, despite not winning any big ranking events for a little while now.
