‘Never seen that before’… Fans react to Kai Gotthardt snapping his dart in half during World Darts Championship

Kai Gothardt’s first-ever match at the World Darts Championship was halted after he snapped his dart in half.

The World No. 136 was three legs into his World Darts Championship debut when his barrel snapped and he had to scamper for another one.

In one of the more bizarre moments in World Darts Championship history, Gotthardt had to leave the stage to find another set of darts.

Fans were floored by the unique situation and took to social media to laugh about the unlikely occurrence.

Fans react to ‘crazy’ Kai Gotthardt moment at Alexandra Palace

Play was halted as the 29-year-old had to leave the arena to find another pair of darts as the biggest event in darts continues to throw up surprises.

On X, one fan joked: “Is this local pub or the World Championship?” while another said: “Ridiculous that he only took one set of darts on stage, and no spare barrels or flights.”

Another said: “A snapped dart and no spare equipment, and people say pub darts is different!” and one wrote: “Three legs into his debut and this happens. Crazy!”

Gotthardt secured his place at the World Darts Championship by winning the PDC Europe Super League.

What’s happened at the World Darts Championship?

The World Darts Championship is well underway and day two has offered no surprises so far.

Wesley Plaisier survived a scare from Ryusei Azemoto to win 3-2 to set-up a match with Peter Wright in the second round.

Luke Woodhouse, meanwhile, continued the momentum he’s built from his semi-final appearance at the European Championship by beating Lourence Ilagan in straight sets.

James Wade and Jermaine Wattimena round off the first-afternoon session of the tournament with their second-round clash.
