Michael van Gerwen stepped away from darts in July after his narrow loss to Luke Humphries in the World Matchplay final, but he’s revealed when he’ll be stepping back up to the oche.
Mighty Mike went under the knife to have major dental surgery after his Blackpool defeat to Luke Humphries, which meant Van Gerwen missed the Australian Darts Masters and the upcoming New Zealand Darts Masters.
The three-time World Champion has offered an update on his surgery and has shared the date of his return to the sport.

Michael van Gerwen’s return is imminent
The current World No. 3 is gearing up for his return to the tour and it could be just a matter of days away.
Sharing with his 536,000 followers on Instagram, The Green Machine said: “The surgery went well, and I’m feeling good!
“Ready to pick up the darts again next week at the Pro Tour. Thanks for all the support during this time. Now, it’s time to get back to work!”
The Dutchman has played in two Players Championship events this year, in February and June, but is yet to win one.
Players Championship 18 will take place on 21 August 2024.
Mighty Mike looks to turn 2024 fortunes around
It’s been a difficult year for Michael van Gerwen, compared to his usual high standards.
Although MVG won the Dutch Darts Masters in his home country at the beginning of the year, he is yet to win a 2024 PDC ranking event.
The seven-time Premier League winner was beaten in the final of The Masters by Stephen Bunting and was dumped out of the UK Open in the last 64.
The Dutchman will be looking to hit top form heading into the latter part of the year just in time for the World Championships in December.
