Michael Smith has responded after being ‘annoyed’ by Peter Wright at the World Cup of Darts.
Smith lifted the World Cup with Luke Humphries last night to put England’s record World Cup tally at five.
The pair averaged over a hundred in the final to deny Austria the title, after beating Scotland 8-4 in the semi-final.
‘The Bully Boy’, however, was upset with Wright after the Scotsman asked Humphries backstage how his shoulders were – suggesting he had been carrying Smith.
The newly crowned World Cup Champion did not find the joke amusing and fired back at ‘Snakebite’.

Peter Wright angered Michael Smith before their semi-final clash
Despite Wright’s joke, it was Smith who outperformed his partner Humphries in their quarter-final clash against Northern Ireland.
Speaking to Darts Now, the St Helens superstar highlighted Wright’s own poor performances.
He said: “The guy’s just averaged 78, I was like ‘what are you doing?’.
“He was trying to give me a bit of banter behind the stage but Peter, you’re not good enough mate.
“That guy must have strong shoulders because he’s been holding the Premier League up for two years.
“He annoyed me today and I think that kind of spurred me on in that semi-final.”
More concerns for Peter Wright after World Cup of Darts
Scotland were fortunate to reach the final four.
Gary Anderson carried the duo in their narrow quarter-final victory over Sweden as Wright averaged just 80.00.
His display against the eventual champions was also lacklustre and despite sensational scoring from ‘The Flying Scotsman’, England swept them aside comfortably.
The 54-year-old has always spoken confidently but there must be serious concerns beneath his tough exterior.
The two-time World Champion endured another dismal Premier League campaign this year, and poor performances are all too frequent in 2024.
The World Matchplay looms on the horizon and the 2021 champion is in danger of an early exit given his current form.
