Matthew Edgar shares who he now thinks will win the 2024 World Grand Prix

The 2024 World Grand Prix has been a tournament that is incredibly hard to predict.

Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen were both eliminated early doors from this competition, and, as ever, the double in, double out format has thrown up a few curveballs.

We’re heading towards the quarter-final stage of the tournament now, and it’s anybody’s guess as to who’s going to win this competition.

Luke Humphries is the favourite as the world number one has serious pedigree on the big stages over the past 12 months, but let’s not forget, Humphries was very nearly eliminated by Stephen Bunting in round one.

It would take a brave man to pick a winner from here, and on social media, Matthew Edgar has done just that.

Matthew Edgar tips Luke Humphries to win the World Grand Prix

Writing on X, Edgar tipped Humphries to win the Grand Prix this year.

The pundit claimed that it’s very hard to see past Cool Hand Luke at this stage, but he did send the world champion a warning.

Indeed, Edgar stated that James Wade is finding his form at just the right time, and he could return to the winners’ enclosure here.

Wade and Humphries could easily meet in the final of the Grand Prix as both men have favourable draws from this point and are currently favourites to progress to that final stage.

What Luke Humphries has said about James Wade

Edgar is absolutely right, Wade could be Humphries’ biggest rival in Leicester this year.

However, make no mistake about it, Humphries will not underestimate The Machine.

Indeed, Humphries knows just how good Wade is. In fact, Humphries even predicted Wade’s resurgence a few months ago.

“You can obviously tell that over the next sort of five months you’re gonna see a different James Wade,” Humphries said.

He added: “I’d love to see him back in the Premier League and the World Series because the sport needs people like James to be honest.”

Humphries said he would love to see Wade back in the Premier League, and victory at the Grand Prix would almost guarantee the 41-year-old a place back in the PDC’s elite in 2025.

Wade and Humphries are certainly the frontrunners in this tournament, but there are still six other players who will want to dump them both out.
