By his standards, Gerwyn Price’s Premier League was a horror show and Matthew Edgar brutally graded his campaign as ‘F for fail’.
It looked like the Welshman had finally got to grips with the 17-week long tournament last year, finishing the league phase top before losing in the final, finishing as runner-up to Michael van Gerwen.
However, This year was another nightmare campaign as he finished seventh place with zero nightly wins and a meagre 12 points.
It’s the fifth time out of six attempts the former World Champion has failed to make the play-offs and Edgar is in disbelief at Price’s inability to thrive in one of the PDC’s most lucrative tournaments.

Matt Edgar gives Gerwyn Price a Grade F in the Premier League
Speaking on the Love The Darts podcast, Edgar discussed Price’s struggles in the Premier League.
“What is it about Gerwyn Price in the Premier League? He just can’t get to grips with it. He’s always struggled to make the top four, but you’d always expect Price to make the top four, you almost think it can’t be right,” Edgar said.
He added: “It’s just not happening for him, he’s a dart or two short at the wrong times. If you’re going to grade Gerwyn Price it’s F for fail, unfortunately.”
Wayne Mardle says Gerwyn Price could be snubbed in 2025
It’s no secret that Wales’s premier player does not like the Premier League format.
After the conclusion of this year’s tournament, Price took to Instagram to suggest he may turn down future invites.
Sky Sports pundit Wayne Mardle believes ‘The Iceman’ may not be offered a spot in next year’s line-up given his disdain for the format.
Speaking to Online Darts, he said: “To turn down an invitation to the Premier League is something you have to think about.
“Gerwyn Price is very reactionary so however he feels in that moment, he’ll post. He’s got a habit of doing it.
“I was pulled out [of the Premier League] so I know what it’s like. I just feel this year missing one, not enjoying it, posting every week you’re not enjoying – is there a possibility he doesn’t get invited? Yes.”
Despite his underwhelming performances this campaign, Price remains a very dangerous player.
In just over a month Blackpool will once again host the World Matchplay and he will no doubt enter as one of the favourites to lift the Phil Taylor trophy.
