Matt Edgar has suggested Luke Littler lifting the Premier League last month was too early.

Edgar explained that the teenager’s rapid success could dampen interest in his sensational rise.

Since Littler burst onto the scene at the World Championship, he has captured the world’s attention.

His epic run to the final brought new eyes to the sport and has seen him appear on world famous talk shows and podcasts.

Edgar, however, has questioned whether the 17-year-old is too successful too young to maintain the same level of interest.

Matt Edgar says Luke Littler is too good

Since his famous World Championship run, Littler has gone from strength to strength.

He has won six titles since the turn of the year and has hit four nine-darters – a record in a calendar year.

Edgar told Online Darts that the rapid rise of Littler could cause people to lose interest in the youngster’s incredible story.

He said: “This might sound controversial but was it a bad thing that Luke Littler won it [the Premier League]? Because ultimately people want to follow the journey of the story.

“He’s won the Premier League at the O2 with a nine-darter, beating the World Number One and the World Champion.”

He added: “Do we still have the same level of interest when it comes round to Players Championship 13 and Luke Littler’s playing again?

Littler keeps breaking new ground

Edgar’s point is valid.

Littler’s historic World Championship run kickstarted a journey that has hooked the nation.

While it’s possible interest may wane slightly in the story, there is still plenty for the Warrington youngster to achieve.

Not least finally capturing the World Championship, where it all began for Littler and many fans.

Until ‘The Nuke’ can achieve this feat and reach the summit in the world rankings, expect his following and interest to grow.
