Matt Edgar has named a surprising darts player as the toughest to play against on tour.

Edgar competed in the PDC for 11 years before losing his tour card in 2022 and has played against hundreds of competitors.

Despite sharing the oche with the likes of Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson, ‘Prime Time’ named Brendan Dolan as his toughest opponent.

Dolan has competed in the PDC for two decades and has notched up ten titles in that time.

He often goes under the radar, but Edgar has highlighted the immense danger he possesses on the oche.

Matt Edgar heaps praise on Brendan Dolan

Edgar used to earmark Stephen Bunting as the most underrated player before ‘The Bullet’ captured his maiden PDC major at the Masters earlier this year.

Speaking to the Love the Darts podcast, Edgar said: “My answer before for the most underrated dart player in the world would be Stephen Bunting, but after he won the Masters I had to change it.

“Brendan Dolan, Dolan as a player is the worst player to play on the tour. I’ve never played anyone worse than Brendan Dolan, he changes the pace of the game, he can go fast, he can go slow.

“He changes to suit himself, and not only that, he’s very good as well. How many more times does he have to do these shock victories before we say he is what he is?”

Dolan’s record speaks for itself

The past 12 months prove Edgar’s point.

‘The History Maker’ stunned the defending champion Michael van Gerwen in the opening round of the World Matchplay last year.

At Alexandra Palace, Dolan dumped both Gerwyn Price and Gary Anderson out of the World Championship before ultimately succumbing to Luke Littler.

At 50-years-old, the Northern Irishman can still mix it with the best and captured his tenth PDC title two months ago.

The threat of Dolan will be acknowledged by his peers given his track record, and he will back himself to impress at the World Matchplay again this year.

He has drawn 15th seed Joe Cullen who has struggled for form and consistency in 2024.

As Edgar said, Dolan is not the player you want to battle when confidence is low – or high for that matter.
