Mark Webster has now explained what Peter Wright must do to qualify for next year’s Premier League.

Peter Wright endured a Premier League campaign to forget.

The final takes place at the O2 on Thursday with Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith battling it out for the elite prize.

Wright, meanwhile, encountered struggles throughout the tournament, claiming just two wins across 16 nights of action.

The 54-year-old ended an abysmal campaign eight points adrift at the bottom and his poor performances have put his position in next year’s Premier League in serious jeopardy.

It seems like a tall order for him to be one of the chosen eight in 2025 however, former 2008 BDO World Champion Mark Webster believes there is a slim chance he will be.

Mark Webster says how Peter Wright can qualify for the 2025 Premier League

Many people felt that Wright shouldn’t have been one of the eight players competing in the Premier League, with Chris Dobey more deserving of a place over him.

Snakebite didn’t just finish bottom of the table but he also recorded the lowest tournament average across the 16 weeks (93.02), scored the fewest 180s (43) and the lowest checkout percentage (35.47%).

Wright was outclassed in every department and cut a frustrated figure on stage. Yet, Webster believes the Scotsman is capable of being selected for next year’s tournament, though he does feel he has to win a major title to stand any chance.

Speaking on the Online Darts YouTube channel, Webster said: “He’s going to have to do something. He has to win a major event, he knows that and he did it last year. If you pick it now, it’s not just me, Peter Wright if he was standing next to me, you’re not going to be in.

“Peter is a hard worker, when I first started he wasn’t getting to grips with the PDC, he didn’t qualify for the World Championships, and he got there and he’s built things, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did it again. He’s been a tough watch at times in the Premier League.”

Who should replace Peter Wright in the Premier League?

Wright would need to go on a stunning run to guarantee his spot in next year’s competition and at this stage, it seems improbable that he will be replaced.

There are a few names who could be in the running to take his spot, including Dave Chisnall, Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting.

From the above trio, it’s anyone’s guess who wins selection as anything could happen between now and the end of the year, with a strong run in the World Championship usually a decisive factor, as seen with Littler.

Crucially, those three listed will surely put up a better fight than Wright did, who bowed out of the Premier League with just two points to his name.
