The Premier League is done and dusted, and Luke Littler is your champion.

The Nuke hit a nine-darter en route to a first PDC major crown, and now, all focus turns towards the World Cup of Darts next month.

Unfortunately, the Premier League champion won’t be playing at the World Cup this year as he’s not ranked highly enough to be selected for England.

Speaking to SportsBoom, Littler noted his World Cup disappointment, but he remained steadfast in the view that England would be victorious with the duo of Michael Smith and Luke Humphries.

Luke Littler backs England to win World Cup

Littler shared his verdict on the England team, stating that he thinks they will get the job done.

“Yes. But the ranking rules have been in place for many years. I’m sure Luke [Humphries] and [Michael] Smith will get the job done,” Littler said.

England are favourites

Littler reckons that England will win the World Cup, and it’s not hard to see why.

England are the only team at the World Cup who will be fielding two former World Champions, while Smith and Humphries are also the respective top two on the Order of Merit.

Of course, on their day, Wales, Scotland and the Netherlands will all be serious contenders, but given the recent form of the likes of Jonny Clayton and Peter Wright, it’s tough to back any of the other home nations.

Michael van Gerwen’s Netherlands have what it takes to be contenders, but, again, Danny Noppert’s form can blow hot and cold.

On paper, Humphries and Smith form the best team at the tournament, and it may finally be time for England to win their first World Cup in eight years.

Even without Littler, Humphries and Smith should have enough to get over the line.
