Luke Littler has become a bonafide international celebrity thanks to his exploits on a dart board and he’s finally revealed why he uses the nickname ‘The Nuke’.

The 18-year-old became the youngest World Darts Champion by some margin when he picked up the Sid Waddell trophy at the second time of asking this year.

Things may not have gone to plan during his Bahrain Darts Masters title defence, but Luke Littler still looks set to take the PDC Tour by storm this year.

Fans and pundits are desperate to find out more about one of the most sought-after sports icons in the UK and Littler has divulged where his nickname comes from.

Luke Littler reveals The Nuke came from local darts league days

While The Nuke is just 18-years-old, he’s been playing darts since he was old enough to hold them and he has as much history as players twice his age.

Asked during his appearance on the Sky panel show ‘A League of Their Own’ where his name came from, Littler nonchalantly told Romesh Ranganathan it came purely from the fact it rhymed with his first name.

The World No. 2 said: “So me and my Dad were just sat in the pub in the local league and it was the first nickname that came with Luke Littler.”

Littler is next in action at the Dutch Darts Masters in Den Bosch where he looks to go one better than his final appearance in 2024.

Luke Littler’s Premier League fixtures announced

Littler’s first major success in the PDC came in the 2024 Premier League and he’ll be looking to back that up with another strong performance in this year’s touring programme.

The Nuke could not have asked for a tougher starting fixture as he comes face-to-face Michael van Gerwen again in his opening round match in Belfast.

The pair famously met in the final of the World Darts Championship, which saw Littler prevail 7-3 against Mighty Mike.

Their clashes are famously nip and tuck, with both men sharing three wins apiece from their last six matches against each other.
