Luke Littler responds when asked if he’s up for playing Phil Taylor in an exhibition

Darts is a unique sport in that careers basically have no expiry date.

Indeed, while some big names have retired from the professional circuit, you can still see all of the greats playing exhibitions or on the seniors tour to this day.

The likes of Wayne Mardle, Keith Deller, Peter Manley and even Bobby George are all still playing on the exhibition circuit, as is the greatest of all-time, Phil Taylor.

Taylor has recently been discussing the idea of playing against Luke Littler in a one-off game, and now, speaking on The MMA Hour, Littler has responded to the challenge.

Luke Littler responds to Phil Taylor challenge

Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Littler responded when asked if he’d play against Phil Taylor, who he named as his darting hero.

“Did you watch Darts as well? Who was your hero?” Helwani asked.

“Phil Taylor. He’s said some really nice things. I actually haven’t (met him). I met him once when I went up to Target who make our darts, but I’ve not seen him after the World Championship or anything,” Littler said.

“He’s just a legend of the sport and for him to be talking about me is crazy to think.”

“We need some sort of legend vs phenom match between you two” Helwani said.

“An exhibition?” Littler asked.

“Would you be open to that?” Helwani asked.

“Yeah, I’d love to play him.” Littler said.

Taylor and Littler should pair up

Realistically, Littler vs Taylor wouldn’t be much of a contest these days. The Power is long retired and he’s not at the level anymore.

However, seeing these two in perhaps a seniors vs stars doubles event could be quite something.

Imagine seeing Taylor and Littler on the same team playing against other greats and their modern-day counterparts, it would make for great viewing.

There’s a gap in the market for more doubles-format tournaments and perhaps a seniors and stars event would work well.
