Luke Humphries may well be the best darts player in the world.
He’s the reigning World Champion, he’s number one on the Order of Merit and this time next week he may well be a Premier League winner.
Humphries won the World Championships in dramatic fashion back in January after beating Luke Littler 7-4 in the final to lift his first Sid Waddell Trophy.
Speaking to PDC Europe on TikTok, Humphries has been reviewing the final leg of that match, and he spoke about how he surprised himself with how he handled the pressure as the finishing line approached.

Luke Humphries surprised by how he handled pressure
The World Champion spoke about how he handled the pressure of being a leg away from winning the tournament.
“I remember this. I’ve not watched that back yet, but it was an important number that 180 I hit. When I went off for the break I felt like the nerves hit my stomach a bit, and I thought I was one set away from changing my life here,” Humphries said.
“What surprised me was how I handled myself in this last leg here because there was so much pressure on my shoulders and so much pressure on his shoulders as well.”
Humphries is so calm under pressure
Humphries was surprised by how he handled this pressure, and that’s what makes him the best in the world.
Humphries had every reason to crumble on the big stage, he’d never been there before, he was the tournament favourite and almost everyone in the crowd that day wanted him to lose in order for Luke Littler to finish his fairytale run.
However, Humphries didn’t let any of that get to him, and he pinned that crucial double eight to crown himself as the World Champion.
This is what separates the best from the rest and Humphries has shown that he has what it takes to be one of the sport’s greats.
