Luke Humphries has named the player he’d want to play in the 2025 World Darts Championship final.

‘Cool Hand’ Luke Humphries has gone from strength to strength in recent years.

The world’s number one hit a purple patch of form towards the end of 2023, scooping three televised titles, including the World Grand Prix, the Grand Slam of Darts and the Players Championship Finals.

Humphries then topped off an incredible year by winning the greatest prize of them all, beating teenage sensation Luke Littler in the 2024 World Darts Championship final.

Having cemented his name among the elite players in the sport, the 29-year-old has enjoyed a successful debut campaign in the Premier League so far and is currently second in the table.

The Leeds-born arrowsmith booked his place in the grand final on Thursday despite losing to Rob Cross 6-5 in the semi-final, who was then defeated by the irrepressible Littler in the final.

Luke Humphries wants to face Luke Littler in the 2025 World Darts Championship final

Littler and Humphries are the new kids on the block in the Premier League, but the pair have blown the competition away.

Fellow rival Nathan Aspinall previously labelled Humphries the best player in the world “by a million miles” after he won three evenings on the spin in March, in Brighton, Nottingham and Dublin.

Littler has since rained on his parade by winning the last two nights in Liverpool and Aberdeen to move eight points clear at the top.

The 17-year-old is the sport’s biggest talent at the moment and no one can seem to beat him.

Yet, Humphries relishes that challenge and wants a repeat of the 2024 World Darts Championship final next year.

Speaking on The Darts Show live on Sky Sports (2/5/2024 6:30PM), he said: “It’s the biggest game of darts you can be involved in. If I could pick it now I would hope that the 2025 World Championship final is me and Luke again because I believe we can bring out some great classics.”

Humphries and Littler are fascinating to watch

The thrilling World Championship final in 2023 between Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith will never be topped, but the most recent edition ran it close.

Littler and Humphries produced some stunning darts in that final as both players played at a fast tempo and produced outrageous scoring numbers.

That is why Humphries is desperate to play the teenager in the next world final as pitting his wits against the best only elevates his game even further.

It will be interesting to see who will win the Premier League as currently, you can’t see beyond the two aforementioned names unless the Green Machine can rediscover his best form.
