Darts star Gerwyn Price has tipped one player who has never won it before to become a future World Darts champion.

The season ender at the Alexandra Palace has always been the showcase for the best players in the game to add the finishing touches to their remarkable careers.

Last time out it was Luke Humphries getting the better of Luke Littler, with the duo flying at the top of the Premier League right now too.

One man who is struggling in this year’s version of the competition is Price, with the final play-off places looking as if they will be taken by Nathan Aspinall and Michael van Gerwen.

The Welshman had far more joy at the Worlds, winning the title in 2021 after defeating Gary Anderson.

A TikTok from PDC Europe saw them question a number of top players over who they are tipping to be a future world champion.

Price backs Jonny Clayton to win the World Darts Championship

While many of the player’s backed themselves, Price instead opted for a player on the tour who he knows very well.

He said: “I think Jonny Clayton.”

Clayton features alongside Price for the Wales World Cup team winning the competition twice in three attempts.

Clayton off the boil right now

Although, he has undoubtedly seen his form drop off over the last couple of years. Now sitting at 10th in the world.

In his prime though, he was certainly one of the top players in the world. He has four major honours to his name, all of them coming in 2021.

His most recent effort saw him only reach the fourth round, where he was dumped out by an in-form Rob Cross on his route to the semi-finals.

It would take a resurgence in form for Clayton to be competing at that level again, however he can take inspiration from the recent effort from Anderson in the latter stages of his career.
