The World Darts Championship always throws up surprises and Scott Williams’ dream run to the semi-final in 2024 has garnered him an incredible record.

Williams was the surprise package of the World Darts Championship last year as he toppled the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Damon Heta, and Martin Schindler during his dream run to the final four.

The PDC Tour has not been as kind to him following the event, with no ranking titles to his name and only two more major tournament appearances at the Players Championship Finals and the UK Open.

Nevertheless, his extraordinary form in the 2024 World Darts Championship has helped him become the best finisher in the tournament’s history.

Scott Williams tops doubling list at World Darts Championship

Williams has appeared in two World Darts Championships, in 2023 and 2024, playing ten matches against the likes of Luke Humphries and Rob Cross.

Throughout those ten matches on the Alexandra Palace stage, the 34-year-old holds the highest checkout percentage in history.

The World Darts Championship semi-finalist is ranked above former World Champions Cross, Phil Taylor, and van Gerwen.

Of course, Williams playing fewer matches than some of the more famous names on the tour somewhat skews the statistics but it’s a decent record to have heading into his third appearance at Alexandra Palace.

Scott Williams looks to upset the big boys again

Once again, Williams will arrive at Alexandra Palace as a qualifier looking to damage the big boys on the PDC Tour.

Williams thrives in the spotlight and he’s hoping to surprise more people with another run at darts’ biggest tournament.

Speaking to Online Darts, Williams said: “I do like to be in the limelight, I like to do stuff to make myself known.”

The star made a name for himself at Alexandra Palace in 2023 by hitting several ‘no look’ maximums and his confident persona won him a lot of fans.

He will get his tournament underway against German thrower Niko Springer on Thursday, December 21 with the winner facing Cross in the second round.

If Williams comes through his first-round match, he’ll meet the man who defeated him in the second round in 2023.
