Former PDC Premier League champion Glen Durrant was taken aback by Beau Greaves’ comment following her second World Women’s Matchplay success.

The 20-year-old darting superstar secured a second consecutive World Matchplay win in Blackpool by defeating Fallon Sherrock 6-3 in the final.

She currently plays on the Women’s Series, PDC Development Tour and will feature at this year’s Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton.

Greaves disclosed post-match that she isn’t a fan of regularly playing against men in professional competition. Still, she hopes the PDC continues expanding and investing in the women’s game, which is still in its infancy.

Glen Durrant hopes to see Beau Greaves play more

On the Sky Sports Darts podcast, Glen Durrant was taken aback by her comments as he believes she is the biggest female talent he has ever seen.

Durrant was the first to praise Greaves about her playing ability but wants the young playmaker to showcase her natural talent to the world.

When on the song, she can average a standard that is hard to beat, as previous encounters with top male professionals Damon Heta and 2024 Premier League participant Nathan Aspinall had a run for their money at the 2023 Grand Slam.

“The feedback has been about how honest she’s been and isn’t she great for our sport.

“But I wanted someone like Beau Greaves, who is the best female player I’ve seen, who can average 110 in full flow, I wanted her to say, ‘I’m going to the Grand Slam, I had a taste of it last time and they’re going to get it!’

“I was a little bit surprised because if anyone is going to do something as a female player in the men’s game, then yeah, Beau Greaves has got all the attributes that you’d need.”

Durrant added, “I was sat with her manager, and hopefully, I’m not talking out of turn, but I was saying, ‘Get her on some exhibitions. I want to see her!’ because she is funny and she’s got a real personality about her, but we only see her sporadically. I want to see more of Beau Greaves because she’s incredible, she really is.”

What did Greaves say?

“I just don’t think we will ever be good enough to play against the likes of Luke Humphries, Michael Van Gerwen or Luke Littler,” she said post-match following her World Matchplay victory.

“You’re facing a losing battle before you’ve even thrown a dart. I think for me, the women’s game is more important.

“I don’t think any lady will ever go to Ally Pally and win that. You are literally being silly if you think that’s possible.

“I know how I can play but it doesn’t necessarily happen on the day. Men are just more consistent. You have to be realistic and ask if it’s going to go anywhere.”

How well could Greaves do on the PDC main tour?

Greaves’ biggest asset at the moment is her age, as being only 20 years old means she has a lot of time ahead of her.

With that factor in mind, in her relatively short career, which has seen her accumulate a vast number of titles, she has plenty of time on her side to perfect her craft before a potential move onto the main tour.

It’s not confirmed when she will make the plunge to secure her tour card, but considering she is vocal on her preference for playing with those of the same gender as her, it likely won’t happen anytime soon.

Once time has passed and she feels confident enough to showcase her ability to the best professional darting tour, she could spring a few surprises.
