Glen Durrant has claimed one player on the PDC circuit has improved so much he’s ‘breathtaking’ to watch.

Darts is a sport that seems to go up in quality every year as new players emerge onto the scene.

Luke Littler is a fine example of the incredible talent breaking through the ranks. The 17-year-old announced his name to the darting world with a stunning run to the World Dart Championship final, losing to Luke Humphries in the final.

The teenage sensation has since taken the Premier League by storm, booking his place on finals night at the O2 and opening up an eight-point lead at the top.

That isn’t to mention the number of nine darters he’s hit already this year – his total of three puts him one behind Gerwyn Price’s record of four in 2022, hitting two of them in one night of the Premier League.

So, when speaking about Littler’s performance, the Warrington-born arrowsmith has been ‘breathtaking’ to watch, though that isn’t the player Glen Durrant has attributed that compliment.

Glen Durrant labels Chris Dobey’s improvement as ‘breathtaking’ to watch

Glen Durrant enjoyed a brief at the top of world darts and his crowning moment was becoming the Premier League champion in 2020.

Sadly, after switching to the PDC in 2019, ‘Duzza’ announced his retirement from the sport in November 2022, claiming that the year 2021 was the most frustrating of his life.

Nonetheless, the 53-year-old still regularly features on Sky Sports commentary and has recently spoken about the skyrocketing form of 2023 World Masters champion Chris Dobey, declaring his improvement as ‘breathtaking’.

Speaking on the Weekly Dartscast, Durrant said: “The atmosphere was incredible, Joe Cullen and Luke Littler, the noise was insane. The matches of Chris Dobey in particular at Ally Pally it was breathtaking to watch how far he’s come on.”

Durrant is referencing Dobey’s run to the 2024 World Championship quarter-final where he lost out to Rob Cross, despite opening up a dominant 4-0 lead on ‘Voltage’.

‘Hollywood’ won his first Players Championship event since 2021 last month after beating Josh Rock 8-4 in the final, and Dobey is now eyeing up a strong middle and end to 2024.

Chris Dobey deserved Premier League selection over Peter Wright

Dobey had a fantastic 2023 and deserved to keep his place in the Premier League over Peter Wright.

The 33-year-old reached the quarter-final of eight events and won the Masters title whereas Snakebite didn’t have the best of years, failing to pick up any televised title.

Wright’s inclusion in the Premier League was questioned from minute one and those questioning the Scotsman were proven to be right as he’s only collected two wins from 15 nights of action.

He’s nailed on to be dumped out of the elite competition and replaced by someone else, perhaps reinstating Dobey’s spot as one of the eight players if he continues his ‘breathtaking’ form.
