Gerwyn Price has shared how much he dislikes the Premier League after a difficult campaign draws to a close.

Gerwyn Price is one of the best darts players on the planet and his selection for the Premier League is almost guaranteed every year.

The fiery Welshman usually performs to his highest standard in the elite competition and last year, finished top of the league phase on 39 points, six clear of Michael Smith.

Although he fell to a dominant Michael van Gerwen in the 2023 final, Price was expected to be in the mix once more in 2024, but it hasn’t happened for him.

The 39-year-old claimed just seven victories across 16 nights of darts all season and ended up on 12 points, leaving him seventh in the table and 17 points adrift of the play-off places.

Price reacted to his Premier League campaign after bowing out in Sheffield, making a damning statement about the competition as a whole.

Gerwyn Price says how much he dislikes the Premier League

Taking to Instagram on Thursday night, Price was understandably frustrated with how his season went, winning just one match in the Premier League during the last six weeks of play.

“So happy that’s done and dusted, end of the Premier League for me now,” wrote Price on his story.

“Looking forward to putting my full attention to ranking events from now on. Would love to say I’ve enjoyed it but I’d be lying.”

Gerwyn Price not a fan of Premier League format

The PDC changed the format of the Premier League two years ago, with the eight Premier League stars playing a short knockout tournament each week to claim weekly points and cash bonuses.

It’s a contrast to the previous format of round-robin fixtures which saw the players in action just once a night, and it’s a format that Price didn’t warm to at the time.

Speaking in April 2022, the ‘Iceman’ said: “I’m not a fan of it. To play three games in a night and then go on to play the Pro Tour events at the weekend, it’s not just about that night in the Premier League. I think it’s just a little bit too much.”

“If it is going to be that format then it needs to be a bit more equal in terms of the draw. So I think they should go back to the old format of playing one game a night.”

Price hasn’t been a fan of the format since it changed from one game a night. Although he reached the final last year, perhaps his form has dropped off due to disliking it and not having the motivation to produce his best darts.

The next big event on the PDC calendar is the World Cup of Darts. Starting at the end of next month, Price will be looking to emulate last year’s success as he secured a second triumph for Wales alongside partner Jonny Clayton.
