Gerwyn Price shares health update after he withdrew from World Cup of Darts

Gerwyn Price opted not to defend his World Cup of Darts for Wales after experiencing health issues.

The 39-year-old was set to partner Jonny Clayton again but was replaced by Jim Williams after pulling out days before.

England lifted the trophy for the first time since 2016 at a canter, with Wales suffering a shock defeat to Croatia.

The ‘Iceman’ will be in Blackpool for the World Matchplay though, but admits he is still in the dark about his health concerns.

Gerwyn Price still looking for answers about his health

England were already big favourites before Price’s withdrawal, but the Welshman claimed his decision ultimately ‘gifted it [the World Cup] to England.’

Speaking to Online Darts, he opened up on his health issues that have plagued him throughout 2024.

He said: “It affects me in certain situations when the temperatures are hot.

“I was away in America and was walking on the parks for 30 minutes. I had to get out of there and get on the phone to a nurse and get some IV drip into me, they thought I was dehydrated.”

He added: “I’m playing well, I think the main thing at the minute is my head’s not right.

“The main thing for me is my health, nothing else matters. Fingers crossed, next couple of weeks I can get things sorted or get some positive information and know what’s wrong with my body.”

Price’s battles with heat a concern heading into Blackpool

Price has a disappointing record at the Winter Gardens, only reaching the quarter-finals three times in nine years.

His revelation of struggles with high temperatures are worrying heading into the biggest tournament outside of the World Championship.

The Winter Gardens is notoriously one of the hottest venues in the sport, and the elongated format does not help.

If the ‘Iceman’ cannot find answers to his health questions soon, it could be another early exit in Blackpool.

July has been unusually cool thus far, however, and if that trend continues then the former finalist could still make a big impact next week.
