Gerwyn Price has completely gone against what he said about playing in the Premier League last year

Gerwyn Price struggled for consistency in 2024 as he failed to truly make his mark on the PDC Tour.

The Iceman failed to qualify for the Grand Slam of Darts and pulled out of multiple competitions for both health reasons and due to dissatisfaction with playing conditions.

However, Gerwyn Price shone in the World Series of Darts picking up two non-ranking event titles in Norway and Australia.

In a year in which he threatened to retire, The Iceman also suggested he’d not play the 2025 Premier League, a statement he’s seemingly gone back on.

Gerwyn Price makes a u-turn on Premier League decision

Price didn’t win a single night of the 2024 Premier League and only reached one final on the opening week of play.

Speaking to Sky Sports at an exhibition event (h/t to The Express), Price opened up about his struggles in the 2024 Premier League and suggested he may decline should he be asked by the PDC.

Price said: “It’s been a really tough year for me, especially the Premier League. I’m not sure about the Premier League next year, don’t think I’d even accept it if I get in anyway.

“I just want to concentrate on ranking events. I’ve been practising really well the last couple of weeks but as soon as you get on stage, it just doesn’t happen.

“That’s just because of having no confidence, but I’ve been in positions where I’ve played well all year and then rubbish in the World Championships, so fingers crossed it’s the other way around.”

Price’s run to the World Darts Championship quarterfinals helped him gain entry to the 2025 Premier League and there’s been no sign The Iceman has rejected the approach.

He’ll join Luke Littler, Michael van Gerwen, Luke Humphries, Rob Cross, Chris Dobey, Stephen Bunting, and Nathan Aspinall at the touring event which kicks off on February 6 in Belfast.

Mike De Decker makes dig at Gerwyn Price after Premier League snub

Mike De Decker has been very vocal about his Premier League snub after he became the first player to win a major in front of the Sky cameras to miss out on the PDC event.

The Belgian called out Nathan Aspinall and also found time to complain about Price’s invitation to the Sky event.

Speaking to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad Sport, De Decker said: “Price has been saying for six months that he didn’t want to play in the Premier League.

“Yeah, come on… I don’t buy that. If Price throws badly for two out of the first three weeks, he’ll post something on Instagram again and start complaining. But they’ll stick him in again.”

Mike De Decker wasn’t the only major winner to miss out on the competition, with UK Open champion Dimitri van Den Bergh and European Champion Ritchie Edhouse also snubbed.
