Chris Mason says he’s worried that seven-time major winner will retire from darts soon

Gerwyn Price hasn’t had the best of times as of late.

The Welshman now hasn’t won a major event since 2021, and he seems to be getting more and more annoyed by life as a darts player.

He made his issues with the Premier League clear a fortnight ago, and that’s not the first time we’ve seen him have a moan in this manner.

Speaking to Online Darts, Chris Mason has been discussing Price’s future in the sport, and he reckons that the Welshman could ultimately end up retiring early as he’s getting more and more fed up with life on tour.

Chris Mason worried Gerwyn Price could retire soon

Mason spoke about Price and his future in the game.

“I don’t know. He moans, you know me, I love Gezzy, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he was one of those where he went ‘do you know what ta ra, I’ve had a great time,” Mason said.

“He’s achieved an unbelievable amount in such a short space of time with no experience at this level.”

“He hasn’t come through the Luke Humphries system of ticking every box. He’s come through the pubs, playing Super League and then getting a card.”

“He’s box office and he’s up there with the best Welsh players of all-time, but I don’t think he loves the game. I do worry for him.”

Gerwyn Price is a competitor

Mason reckons that Price could call time on his darting career early, but that’s not something that looks to be in the pipeline.

Price is still playing some great stuff on the oche. He’s the world number four for a reason, and, more importantly, he’s a born competitor.

Whether it’s rugby or darts, Price lives for that competitive sporting edge, and it’s hard to imagine he’ll just give up darts while he still has so many competitions left to win.

Price does need to rediscover his best form and stop being so negative, but it’s hard to see him completely bowing out of darts when he’s still playing at such a high level.

Price is a seven-time major winner, and he’ll want to add more titles to that roll of honour.
