‘Almost categorically’… Journalist is almost certain 8-time major winner will never play in the Premier League again

The Premier League lineup causes controversy every single year when it is announced by the PDC.

Certain players miss out, and others sneak their way in, regardless, darts fans will always argue about who should and shouldn’t be in the final eight.

This year was rather controversial as Luke Littler got in off the back of just one ranking event appearance, while Peter Wright was chosen despite some terrible performances throughout 2023.

However, there was another notable absentee in the shape of Gary Anderson.

Indeed, for the second year running, The Flying Scotsman was left out of the Premier League lineup, and speaking on the Online Darts Live Lounge, Phill Barrs has suggested that we may not see Anderson in the Premier League ever again.

Gary Anderson is finished with the Premier League

Barrs spoke about Anderson’s potential return to the Premier League fold.

“We’ll talk about it because he won. Me included, fans included, would love to see Gary Anderson back in the Premier League, but I can almost categorically say that it’s never going to happen,’ Barrs said.

“Going back to the point about the Premier League. The reason I say I don’t think it’ll ever happen again is because he’s found this place where he’s happy.”

Gary Anderson belongs in the Premier League

This is a massive shame

A player with a following like Gary Anderson belongs in the Premier League, but if he doesn’t fancy it, we can’t blame him.

The travel schedule is less than ideal, and the fact that it’s a non-ranking event isn’t a huge incentive either.

However, given that Anderson doesn’t get many chances to play in Scotland in front of his fans, we do think it’s a huge shame that Anderson seems to be done with the Premier League.

This competition won’t be the same without a Scotsman and with Peter Wright likely to drop out next season, we may well be facing our first Premier League with no Scottish representative since 2010.
